Anniversary or OTHER dates in Contacts not showing in Calendar

I know Birthdays in Contacts appear incrementally in Calendar.

But the OTHER dates in Contacts don't appear in the calendar even though in CALENDAR Prefs Birthdays are switched but there is no option to display the OTHER dates from Contacts.

Looks like OTHER dates was an after thought which never got worked into the Calendar.

I can see people have asked this question for many years now without any action from Apple.

That is correct. Only birthdays are displayed automatically from contacts. You will need to enter other dates manually as an annually recurring event.

No one here in this user-to-user forum would know why Apple has chosen not to include this feature. I suggest you submit feedback to them here:

If enough people do, it's possible that Apple will add the feature.

I checked and you're right, it won't show up on Apple's calendar. However, I use BusyCal and it shows up there and will change how many years the anniversary is, with every passing year. The Apple calendar is very basic. I've used BusyCal for years and it's one of the best apps I have

You are absolutely correct. The Apple calendar, like many of the Apple apps is basic. I've heard good things about BusyCal. It has been recommended in threads about other features Calendar doesn't have. I like Fantastical but I haven't tested if it handles anniversary's.

I have a work around: put both in Birthdays, but use the year for anniversaries and just the month and date for birthdays. Then when they show up in your Birthdays calendar, you know the one that says "Joe's 14th birthday" is really Joe's 14th anniversary. If I don't know the date, I but 1900 for the year so it's obvious that it's an anniversary. It's not perfect, but it works for me.

A clever workaround.

And btw, it really is a huge ball drop by Apple that they don't have better ways to keep track of the important dates in your people's lives.

This will work okay and an option that is easy to do. But what I like about using BusyCal is that not only will it repeat every year, like Calendar will, but it will also tell you what number anniversary it is. This is a great thing so you can always know how long you've been married when your partner asks you. Calendar won't do that. Why they can't add that little convenience, I don't know.
