why does phone ring volume decrease?

That's not true. Mine is turned off but in Sounds and Haptics, the volume slide continually slides to low volumes. I sometime misplace mine in the house and use my wife's phone to call mine; can't hear it ring. When I finally find it, and check it, the d$#% ringer is all the way down. I set it back to max, but within a couple of days is turned off again. That is a glitch in either the iPhone 15 or the iOS updates. Either way it sucks.

No Lawrence, I have had an iPhone since the beginning. I know how they work, how to use the side buttons, and am doing nothing to change the volume on this phone. My wife has the 14 ProMax with the same problem. She goes shopping, I call her, and unless she just happens to see the screen, she can’t hear it. There is a glitch in the new iOS updates.
Because you are looking at the phone, so the phone knows you heard it. If you don’t like this feature go to Settings/Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features.
I turned this off but it keeps happening. What should I do now?
Are you sure you turned off Attention Aware Features?
Same thing happened to me. I removed the bluetooth pairing to my smart watch and it fixed the problem. Hope this works for you.
Go to settings/Sounds & Haptics and turn off Change with Buttons. You are probably inadvertently pressing the Volume Down when picking up the phone as it is right in the middle of the left side.
I can’t offer anything further. My volume stays where I set it, never budges. Same on my wife’s phone, and on our 2 iPads.
