Is there a way to stop Apple Wallet from opening automatically when near a paying terminal.

I wouldn’t mind it, but i have to give my phone to a bus driver so he could read my bus ticket’s QR code. As the payment terminal is situated near to the QR-code reader device on the same console, sometimes it takes 10 or even 20 seconds to get it done. It is annoying to the driver and to the passengers, too. Please help.

That doesn’t work, even when that button is on, cards still kick in when the phone gets close to a paying terminal. The only thing that having on such button prevents is that no charge is done to the card until you press double click. But still the card appears and overrides the photo app where the QR code is. This is a serious design flaw.

Do you understand that no one here can make the change you want? That arguing here, while possibly a welcome diversion on a dull work day, is otherwise pointless? That is really doesn't matter if anyone here understands or agrees with you? Because it doesn't seem as if you do.

YOU don’t seem to understand that nobody is asking Apple anything, this forum is asking the community if someone knows of a workaround that prevents apple wallet from popping up. You don’t know any? What a pity, next, move on.

You've been given the answer to that. You've also been given a possible workaround: add the QR code to your wallet. Asking the same question over and over again and expecting a different answer is the definition of...something.

It doesn’t matter if the company wants to use QR codes. Apple should prevent that its devices perform undesired behaviours. And the apple wallet always kicking in no matter what, without the possibility to cancel this behaviour, is a design flaw. And it’s Apple’s responsibility to fix it.

Hi Jeff, my issue is slightly different in that my Apple wallet is automatically opened anytime I put my phone into the charger in my car. The car I have is a Lynk&Co but I see the same issue happens other cars as well. I have tried all the changes in the settings that are suggested in this thread, but none of these seem to help me. Just to be thorough, I restarted the entire car system and the iphone every time I changed the setting. This is an issue that affects a lot of users of this particular car and the Lynk&Co company does not seem to be able to offer any solutions. Would love to hear what else I can try, many thanks.

Same issue, traveling abroad and making multiple bookings that e-mail PdF QR code tickets. They have other monthly passes and app for frequent users, but I do not want to download and register for every app where I will just visit once. Opening the pdf QR code on email and scan, then Wallet opens and QR code goes to background. Might be how Apple intended it but still is annoying...

Let me try to explain. I encountered this in train stations in two countries: Netherlands and France.

These stations have scanners at gate that accept both optical tickets (QR codes) and NFC tickets (like Apple Wallet). Here is a photo of the gates in Netherlands: https://hilario.bambooradical.com/benelux/images/train_02_check_in_gate_close_up.JPG

In both occasions, I had a QR code ticket as a PDF (not in Apple Wallet). When I brought my iPhone screen closer to the reader at the gate, Apple Wallet thought I wanted to pay using one of my Apple Pay cards and automatically brought the Apple Wallet screen. There was no way to keep it off. So the QR code in the PDF wasn't visible long enough for the reader at the gate to recognise it. I tried many many times but nothing helped. In the first instance I almost missed my train!

I already have the double click side button on. It doesn't matter, Apple Wallet automatically pops-up as soon as it detects an NFC reader.

Hope this helps clarify the problem.

I had the Double-Click Side Button setting On. I also tried with Off. This setting has no effect in the Apple Wallet's behaviour of popping up by itself when brought closer to an NFC reader.

In other words, this behaviour cannot be controlled by user at the moment. That's the whole reason of this thread. (and there are other threads like this if you search for it).
