The appearance is different from the body cells. Bolder type in your screenshot.
See Add, remove, or freeze header rows and columns in the Numbers for iPad User Guide.
I would leave your Header Column intact, set the last row as a Footer Row and enter the text you want in column A there.

I don’t know if you are on Mac or iOS, but try this link and follow its steps.
Generally you have to select two neighboring cells and then you will get the option to merge,
Merge or unmerge cells in Numbers on Mac - Apple Support
From you screenshot it appears that you are trying to merge a cell in a Header Column with a cell in the body of the table. Numbers doesn't allow that.
Have you considered defining the last row as a Footer Row? Then you can enter text into the cell in column A there, and turn off Wrap Text.
In general I try to avoid merging cells. I nearly always can achieve the visual effect I want without merging.

I've marked in red the parts of your screenshot that look bold to me....

That’s the problem. They are neighboring cells, I have them selected but when I tap “Cell” to get the options, the merge button isn’t there, just the fill option. It is an IPad.
Hi MyGoodness99,
Just a thought:
If you don’t see Merge Cells, you might have selected a header cell and a body cell, which can’t be merged, even if they’re adjacent.

Ian.
That was it, the picture I posted. Wanted those two the be like the line on top but ai couldn’t move them.
Couldn’t merge them
So how can I tell one is a header and if it is how can I change it?
The only bold I notice is the 24. When I added that row below the one above it, I added it as a text row not a header row.
The footer idea worked
