iCloud emails don't stay in the Trash can, but are deleted from my iPhone and iPad!

One or two years ago I decided to move my personal domain to the iCloud email service. Since then many of my emails are gone forever.

As it happens I want to keep my deleted emails in the trash forever. The reason for this is that I want to be able to search for things, even a long time after I deleted them.

In macOS you are able to set the time for how long an email can stay in the trash can without being deleted (up to one month, I'd prefer up to one year at least).

I can't find any such setting in iOS or iPadOS… The oldest email in my trash for that account is seven days ago. I want to find an order confirmation sent to me a couple of weeks ago, and now it's gone. Extremely frustrating!

Question:

Is there a way to set this time to "never" (or one year would be ok) in iOS or iPadOS?

Hi Andreas Carlsson,

We'll be glad to assist with changing the automatic deletion of iCloud Mail on your iPhone and iPad. To adjust the setting for iCloud Mail on your iPhone, head to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then select iCloud Mail > iCloud Mail Settings > Advanced > Deleted Messages. From there, you should then see the adjustable option for when to remove deleted messages.
