AirPod Pro 2nd generation

Why does AirPod Pros 2nd generation connect to LG OLED TV but immediately stop sound? I had 1st generation ones connected successfully and followed all of the suggested tips to connect the 2nd generation ones. Only a quick static sound and then nothing. Clicking on and off resulted in same static sound but did not complete sound connection.

Hello Apple_Fan1234,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. We understand that you're having issues with the audio when connecting your AirPods Pro to a smart TV. There are a few things you will want to check.

  1. Is your TV running the latest firmware? You'll want to check with LG to confirm.
  2. Are you AirPods Pro updated? You can check the firmware version by connecting them to an iOS device and going to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods Pro, tap the "i" and the firmware version should be listed in the About section. About firmware updates for your AirPods

If you haven't yet tried resetting your AirPods, you may want to give this a try. The steps for this action are provided here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro.

Best regards.

Hello Missy5937,

  1. Yes, LG firmware is up to date.
  2. Yes, AirPods Pro are updated.
  3. I reset AirPods Pro and the resultant static was the same.
  4. I took the AirPods Pro to Apple Store and they were checked out with no issues. Then reset to factory settings.
  5. Tried to connect to LG TV again and got same quick static noise and then nothing.
  6. Will return AirPods Pro 2nd generation for refund. Seems to be a change between 1st generation and 2nd generation devices in connecting to third party Bluetooth. I use them mainly with LG TV. Until Apple resolves what changed between the generations when connecting to Bluetooth on third party devices, they are of no use to me even though they have excellent features and sound for all of my other Apple devices.

I am having the same issue as Apple_Fan1234. Have both generations of AirPod Pros. 1st Gen connect and have no issues. 2nd Gen makes me switch audio sources anytime a video pauses, I switch to a different app or changed to a different video/show. I do not get the static sound but I do have to switch sound mode back to tv and then back to Bluetooth to get them to work every time. I have verified that all of the fixes you mentioned and they do not make a difference.
