iPod Touch

Hi! One of my friends locked me out of my iPod before we moved and now it's permanently disabled unless I connect it to iTunes. I have iTunes opened, but it only gives me the option to reset it, rather than the "update" option. I know the password I would really like to keep my old photos and music, since it has a lot of my childhood artwork and pictures on it. Is there any way to recover it without having to delete everything?
