I just purchased a new Apple watch series 8 and began to pair it with my iPhone 12. I got past where it is paired and I tell it which wrist I wear the watch on, and it began doing something else that would take a few minutes and then it starts to unpair. It has done this several times, and I'm not sure what to do. I've shut down each and restarted, but still does the same thing.

I am having the same issue with 8 series watch, iPhone 13. I have reset both multiple times. iOS on phone is up to date. Both are fully charged .The watch won’t set up without pairing to a the phone first. The watch has an update, but when I try to initiate it, it stalls unpairs from phone. This is incredibly frustrating
Solution: First remove the Apple Watch from the account, then start pairing it, you will have to login with your Apple ID and password at one point to re add it to the account so be prepared. Do not forget to check for software update in setting after is paired. Good luck!
Same issue as described. iPhone 14/Watch 9. Read articles and verified settings on my phone. I had an update downloaded (iOS 17.1) but not installed. Fixed that but I also found I had an old phone still linked in iCloud. I deleted
that phone while my 14 was updating. Between the two changes on the next attempt to pair it took.
Poor TS protocol to make two changes at once but somewhere in those processes is the (my) fix.

I had this same issue with a current phone, updated software, and a replacement Apple smart watch. After checking out this group, I decided to try to Old School approach. I simply turned off my PHONE and waited a bit. A few minutes later, I turned the phone back on, put the watch on my wrist and all was well. Good luck.
What “excellent advice” was given? “Try pairing again”? The original post says the user has already reset and tried re-pairing countless times. What a joke of a company, they officially don’t have to care anymore so they don’t.

I am at the latest iOS version and part of the problem, is that when I try to update the watch, it doesn't pair at all.
After countless attempts. I figured out the only way I could get my Apple Watch series 8 to connect to my iPhone 13 Pro Max to connect was by doing the MANUAL setup!!
iphone and Watch OS's come in pairs.Always update the iphone first
eg iOS 16.3.1 then OS 9.3.1 afterwards
Same way as you turn on a light bulb with no electricity.

I was having trouble as well but I figured it out by updating my phone to the newest IOS and reset my Apple Watch. It’s all set now.
