USB Port Dongle

Just asked a question regarding a USB/ethernet adapter for my new 24" iMac:basic model has only 2 USB ports and using them for Time machine and modem/router connection. I have read about "dongles" which connect to iMac USB port and expand to 4 or more ports, similar to power plug adapters. Anyone out there using one to increase the amount of USB ports? If so, working well? Seems to be a race as to whom can offer one at the lowest price, perhaps causing dongle failures as a result. Anyone recommend a really good one: would like 3 USB's (and one ethernet if possible): Time Machine, modem/router connection - rather than WiFi - and one for my USB/ethernet adapter printer connection. Thanks!

You bought a base model iMac and no they do not have a Ethernet port. If you need an Ethernet port and are within the return window then return and buy a mid tier model that has an Ethernet port integrated into the power cable. Or you can contact the Apple Store and see if you can buy the power cable by itself.

Another option is the CalDigit dock, I found it on the Apple Store (I'm in the USA not sure where you are located) . The link is :

I also found something that can help on Amazon if all you need is the Ethernet connection:

Thanks Keith. So far, Belkin, Bellini and Ca;-Digit. Mac going cheap with only 2 USB's - and no ethernet - on basic models. My old printer works fine but needs an Ethernet connection, hence the adapter. How about a "hub": plug one into USB and separates into 4 ports for DATA transfer - NOT charging? Mite be able to use 1 USB to make 4 as in power strips taking multiple; plugs and giving 4 or more options? Thanks!!
