Can't update watch 6 because of iPhone

I have an iPhone 7 Plus and an Apple Watch 6. Apple no longer supports 7 plus with updates so my watch won't update without the phone being updated. Any ideas on this?

To update to WatchOS9 you need a phone that is running ios16 or newer,which is an iphone 8 or higher.
