When updating wirelessly, ensure the following are true-

  • iPhone is at 50% battery or higher, and plugged in
  • Battery saving mode is off
  • iPhone is not connected to a hotspot or VPN
  • Your device has enough free space for the update


Do you see a message below the greyed-out button? For example- in the below picture, the message states that a strong Wi-Fi connection is needed.




If you still can't update, but have either a PC or a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, you can update with iTunes - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes - Apple Support
