Autoswitch from 2.4G to 5G WiFi

My phone typically stays connected to my 5G wireless but when I am outside working on the lawn then it looses that and will connect to my 2.4 G wireless. When I go back into my home why does my iPhone not automatically revert back to the faster 5G?

You asked.......When I go back into my home why does my iPhone not automatically revert back to the faster 5G?

We answered. The iPhone will not do this automatically because it has not been designed to do so. Instead the phone remains connected to the stronger 2.4 GHz signal. After a time......5-10 minutes......the iPhone might switch over to 5 GHz.....and it might not.

If you name your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks differently, you can point the iPhone at the network that you want to use. But......if you are on 5 GHz and you go outside, the phone will try to stay connected to 5 GHz.....and you may lose the signal depending on the location of the iPhone.

msstatedawg ~ Apple's Shortcuts app offers travel triggers (Arrive/Leave) which can run a personal automation based on your location. The automation for "Arrive" back home could be set up to turn Airplane mode on & off and thus reconnect to 5G as already mentioned above. But probably the distance between lawn and home would be too short for the personal automation to trigger appropriately. ...Anyway, it's something to look into and be aware of for other situations.
