For issues with them being unable to access the shared purchased content, then this page can help: If you can't find your family's shared content - Apple Support
Also, check to see if the Apple Music membership is selected as the Family one, or if it's an individual one.
Lastly, ensure that the family members are in the same region for purchase sharing.

I am well familiar with sharing purchases and finding family's shared content. What I did not know is that family memebers should be in the same region(?) for sharing purchases. Does that mean that if I am in a different region than my family member sharing is not possible?!?

You are correct. For Family Sharing, all users must be in the same region. Let us know if this answers your question!
