Import CSV file into Contacts

I am trying to import a csv file into my Mac/iCloud Contacts. I converted our community Directory from a Word to Numbers file, edited, and exported to CSV. When I tried to import to Contacts all I ended up with is a list of "No Name" and no data.

Can anyone help?

Wow!

In addition to commas being enclosed in double quotes, must the fields be in the order presented in Contacts? I have the names divided into first name field, second name field, and last name field followed by address field (only street addresses since this is our community directory), then phone numbers etc. Must I rearrange them?

The commas separating the fields don't have to be quoted. If you have a field that contains a comma, like "123 Some Street, Apt. 24," that has to be in quotes. If you don't delimit those commas, you will have more columns in some of the rows. Every row must have the same number of columns.

As long as you have headers, it should not matter what order. I'm not even sure if headers are needed. You will be asked which columns go into which fields. The headers may help with that.
