How mysterious. What were you doing directly prior to getting that question?

That shouldn’t happen, as those functions do opposite things. Either one is optional. Home Sharing pulls content from a networked computer, while AirPlay pushes content from a networked device to the Apple TV box or other AirPlay-enabled device. Home Sharing is operated from the Apple TV box, while video-AirPlay is operated from the sending device.
