OLD Macbook Pro

I have an old Macbook Pro (like 2006) that has photos from my kids. The computer died one day, and I put it on the shelf. If I don't have it backed up on an external drive, can I recover those photos?

If the drive hasn’t died, I’m sure you’ll be able to recover the photos. If it has failed, they’re gone because you didn’t make a backup. Not sure what would be a good first call however.
