I have a air tag I went to find my phone app and it is no longer listed in my device I can scan the tag and it is showing my x’ed out phone number but I can’t use the tag how do I get the tag to be locatable

Thank you for help I reset the tag yesterday with apple support and all is great I still don’t know how it happened
