HomePod Mini Does Not Open Apps on Apple TV

Hello,

When I ask Siri on HomePod Mini to "Open [App] on Apple TV," she replies, "I can't find any TV's nearby."

Both devices are in the same room and the HomePod Mini is the audio output device for the Apple TV.

According to this article, Use Siri to control Apple TV from your HomePod, iPhone, or iPad, this request should be possible.

I've tried restarting both devices.

Thanks!

Hi mario49,

The Apple TV is named Living Room Apple TV and the HomePod Mini is named Living Room HomePod. I can try changing the name, but they've been in the same room for a while now.

I can airplay from my iPhone to my Apple TV as well as the HomePod Mini.

Both the Apple TV and HomePod Mini are using the same iCloud account.

One thing to note, the HomePod Mini is not the default audio output device for the Apple TV. However, I manually set it as the output audio device by long pressing the Apple TV button on the remote and selecting HomePod Mini as the output device.

Thanks!

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Garrett_1.

We see that you're having some trouble controlling your Apple TV from your HomePod Mini. We've got some questions to better understand what's going on.

•Do you know what your Apple TV is named? Does changing the name help at all?

•Are you able to AirPlay from a different device to your Apple TV?

•Are your Apple TV and your HomePod Mini using the same iCloud account?

We look forward to hearing from you.

There isn’t a bug, none if the HomePod can’t open apps , when you say hey Siri open Netflix in your Apple TV Siri will response “ can’t open apps from here “ but if you do the same from your iPhone , eventually siri will open Netflix on your Apple TV but saying “ hey siri open Netflix on my Apple TV living room” siri will do that , HomePod doesn’t have apps

To set HomePod as default audio sources you have to do it from settings video and audio

Hi Ozzie1910,

I apologize, but I'm not fully understanding what you are saying. I can ask Siri on my HomePod Mini to open Netflix on my Apple TV and Netflix will open. When I wrote the original post on November 27, 2021, Siri on my HomePod Mini would not open Netflix on my Apple TV. I did not change any settings or configuration on either my HomePod Mini or Apple TV between November 27, 2021 and now.

This is why I concluded that this must have been a bug that Apple fixed in a software update. AlthoughI cannot confirm this for a fact, it is my best guess since I did not change anything with the devices.
