Passcode required, but none set

iPad is asking for a passcode after update. but I don’t have a passcode set. How can I open it?

Follow the instructions in the Related Article that you were viewing to come to the forum. The iPad cannot create a passcode on its own. It requires that the passcode be entered once, then entered the second time to verify it. You had to enter it at some point. The instructions in the Article explain how to restore the device to remove the unknown passcode, then you will be able to restore your latest backup.
