Air Vs Pro

So my screen on my 2020 (not M1 chip) MacBook Pro cracked. It’s being evaluated and I’ll get a quote on how much it’ll cost to fix it… I am guessing its around 800 dollars, and no, I did not have apple care.

I guess my question is how much is the M1 Chip worth it? I could get a MacBook Air with 16gbs of ram, 512 gbs of storage, which is what my pro is right now, for about 600 dollars more than the repair… Which I know is a lot but I am worried that the screen won’t be the same… I mean if I got the same MacBook Pro but with an M1 chip it would be 1000 dollars more.

Would I see any difference in performance between my pro and an air? Should I just get my current one fixed?
