Brand New Macbook Pro Very Slow

I have my work laptop which is a 2015 Macbook Pro that works very well still and is very fast. I just bought the new M1 Macbook Pro for my personal laptop since I heard so many great things about it. However, this is my first week using the new Macbook and it is so slow. It almost seems laggy at times which is very disappointing considering how it is underperforming compared to my work computer. I've tried it out in many different locations and networks and it runs the same. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Please let me know if this is something I should seriously look into and contact Apple for.

First, restart and run in Safe Mode as a check against, "It's something you added" (safe mode does not load any third-party add-ons).

Next, create a new User account and log in with that pristine account and check against your daily-driver account has something corrupted that is slowing things down.

is this just an internet slowdown, or is the processor running slowly? Check the drive for > 20 percent free space. check activity Monitor (all processes) for memory graph all green.
