iPhone calendar Alert and Second Alert bug

This was happening on my iPhone 11, so I thought when I upgraded to 12 Pro Max it would be fixed. But no! Steps to replicate the bug:

Create calendar event
Change Alert from default of '15 minutes before' to [anything else]
Change Second Alert from default of 'None" to [anything else]

The result is usually that the Second Alert defaults to '15 minutes before' and the Alert switches to whatever value you set for the Second Alert.

I always keep my phone updated with the latest software releases.

Any advice on how to fix this? It's SO frustrating!

It makes no sense to me why they arbitrarily switch. When I want the 1st alert to be a week in advance, and it switches to "15 minutes before" the event, that defeats the purpose IMO. Sigh.

I get the impression that this is a deliberate design by Apple, as it has been this way for many, many versions of iOS. While the alerts are somewhat confusing when they are arbitrarily switched, they do work as expected.

Oh, I definitely agree. And it is across multiple Apple operating systems, including all iOS versions and Mac OS.
