How do I sync my contacts across devices?

When I update my contacts on my iPhone, they do not update on the iPad. Same with text messages. If I delete text messages on one, I have to also delete them on the other. How do I get them to synce?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 14

You need to activate a synchronization mechanism between the two devices. One that you can use for free is iCloud. Just make sure that the two devices are signed into the same Apple ID, then activate Contacts and Messages in iCloud on both devices.
