Hello ssb211,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like after setting up your new iPhone, you’re noticing apps not downloading in the background. We’d be happy to help.

After migrating data or restoring a backup from a previous iPhone, this may be expected behavior and the time it takes to download all of your apps may depend on network conditions, connection type, and the amount of data being downloaded.

We have a few questions for you:

How did you set up your new iPhone? You can refer to Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch for the transfer methods.

Are the apps on your home screen showing as grayed out? And approximately how long have they been loading after you activated and set up your device?

Is your new iPhone connected to a Wi-Fi network?

Here’s some information on how to Finish setting up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Take care.
