The Apple TV 4th Gen - YouTube App Broken

I have a brand new Apple TV 4th Gen purchased in March 2021 to watch YouTube. The app has worked fine for a week but now every single video says "something went wrong"


I have perform the following remedies with no success:

  • force closed and restarted the app
  • restarted the apple tv
  • deleted and reinstalled the app
  • signed out and signed back in
  • Did every remedy twice


Do I fix with a hammer now? If you can please provide an remedy that will work, that would be great.

If you search the forum you'll see that you are not alone in this issue nor in the methods tried. Noted on MacRumors Forums also. Mine dropped out (same as yours; all software etc. up to date) yesterday. Seems to be a Google problem...probably as a result of their knocking out the ATV 3 gen. users?????? (mine is a 4th gen. HD).

Tap Add account > sign in with your phone > try another way > YouTube.com/active > enter code on TV > tap allow. This finally worked on all of my Apple TV’s. My newest Apple TV doesn’t have the “sign in with your phone” option, so just skip that step if it’s not there.
