How to remove data from the mac

My Mini is running full while having 1,6 TB free on iCloud.

Apple support does not bring any solution, all recommended settings already applied.

  1. Why does the Mac not offload data to iCloud? I thought it was an intelligent system.
  2. Any strategy to keep data in the iCloud? So once you worked on a file, it is uploaded again and no longer on your drive ?

Suggestions appreciated.

Thx,

Mac mini 2018 or later

It will depend on your system version. Which system version is running on your Mac?

On a Mac with macOS 10.15 Catalina or macOS 11 Big Sur, you can simply ctrl-click a file or folder on iCloud Drive and use the command "Remove Download", to remove the local shadow copy, once you have finished working with it.
