Firstly, if this is the Newest MBA with M1 CPU - there are the instructions from Apple on Reinstalling Big Sur

Secondly, if this is an Intel CPU - try disconnection all external drives and connect to charger. Force Shutdown via Power Button. Restart and Immediately hold - Shift - key. This will attempt to startup in Safe Mode. It does a Repair Disk, clearing cache files and only load Apple Software - so loads slowly - Normal. This process may or may not allow the installation to finish and successfully install Big Sur.

You seem to be accessing these Forums from another Apple computer? If so and depending on how old it is, last resort is to Create a Bootable Installer of Big Sur or Catalina - . The offending computer MBA is it with the Touch ID T2 Chip ?? If yes and want to Create a Bootable Installer of Big Sur or Catalina - have to get into Recovery Mode again and Tools at Top and Secure Boot menu below that and Enable Boot from External Device. The next step is to Boot from the USB Installer via Option key immediately at Startup and choose the USB Installer. Choose Disk Utilities >> View >> View All connected devices. On Left side look for Upper Most Drive ( Not volumes below that listing ) usually called Apple SSD. Choose that Drive >> Right side >> Erase and give it a name >> Format as APFS and Scheme: GUID Partition Map >> Erase. This will remove everything 100% gone. Now back out of Disk Utilities and choose Install macOS. Follow the prompts and directions. It will reboot several times before it finishes and eventually present Setup Assist.

In recovery mode, very limited, not able to get to Terminal.

I tried for 3rd time, still failed and the same error prompted.

Sighed......

I am doing 4th time by erasing the disk, repair the disk using first aid, all done successfully.

Trying to reinstall macOS Catalina again and will see.......

This is my first-time reinstall and seems very challenging compare to windows installation.......

I did not do anything extra.

I just follow what you shared me and also follow the Apple support help document in here by searching the error I got and followed the steps listed. Keep trying until I got it.

and it is painful to keep trying and waiting for the installation to be done.

appreciate for your helps and prompt response and it saves me

thank you so much Phillips
