iOS12.5.1

I have an iPhone 6s running iOS12.4. I read that there is a security update that is highly recommended by Apple... 12.5.1. So I try to update to this OS: I go to Settings... Software Update... and Apple offers me iOS14.4 only. There is no option for the update to 12.5.1. I'm on a wifi connection.

Can anyone tell me how to get it?

Alternatively, should I just go ahead and load 14.4. It will tax my phone for storage though.

Thanks.

14.4 is years more modern than 12.5.1.

The reason you never got it was because it was only available to 5s and 6 models and not your 6s.

You just missed all on iOS 13 for some reason and the beginning of iOS14.

There is an error in the text you posted. It was never for a 6 model. 6s is the oldest.

Interesting. I just read an article in the Seattle Times:

CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — Apple is urging iPhone and iPad users to update their devices to fix security flaws that might have been “actively exploited” by hackers.

Apple made the software upgrades available Tuesday, adding a rare note suggesting it was a serious threat.

The company credited anonymous researchers for pointing out the vulnerability but provided little details about the nature of the threat.

The company said one of the vulnerabilities affects the “kernel,” the nerve center of Apple’s operating system, iOS. Two others affect WebKit, the web browser engine used by Safari and other apps.

The upgrade is for several generations of devices, starting with the iPhone 6.

So if the article is correct, I ought to be able to enjoy an upgrade for this security problem. But you guys say that I can't upgrade because my iOS is too old. Sort of a Catch 22. Is there anything about iOS 14.4 that will make me regret loading it? My phone has only 16 GB capacity. I'll have to free up space (photos) in order to upgrade.

I know... I know. My phone is old. But so am I.

Thanks for helping.
