How do I create a Picture in Picture video with 2 videos in iMovies on my MacBook Pro running Big Sur?

The procedure is to place video no. 1 in the timeline above video no. 2, then select video no. 1 and do a PiP overlay by clicking on the overlay tool (the one that looks like overlapping squares) in the tool bar at the upper right of your screen.


The PiP feature adds overlaid clips one after the other, so that they appear sequentially as the playhead moves through. So if you now overlay video no. 3 after video no. 1, it will not display simultaneously with the overlaid video no. 1. The video no. 1 PiP will play first, followed by the video no. 3 PiP.


To make the video no. 1 and video no. 3 PiPs play simulrtaneously, you need to create a separate project for the purpose, add your video no. 1 PIP there, share it out, import it into your original project, and overlay the video no. 3 PiP on the imported clip. Then they will display together at the same time.
