I tried to wipe my daughters macbook pro and cleared the os I believe it's Yosemite how can I get an os that I can install to fix this?

My daughter has given me her older Mac book pro and I tried to get it back to factory settings (like new) and I erased the OS and now I can't do any thing. I believe it had Yosemite as the original OS how do I get an OS that is compatible with my Mac and get it going again?

MacBook Pro 15″, OS X 10.10
