Quicktime screen recording audio issues

I record YouTube videos, and I use QuickTime to do it. It works great, when it isn't messing up my audio. Essentially, in almost every other recording I do, the audio becomes choppy, distorted, and very unpleasant to listen to. I have had this problem for a few months now, and I am constantly throwing out literal hours of content and wasted time due to this massive issue. It does not start immediately, sometimes I can record up to 30 minutes without it messing up, but it will gradually set in until it becomes a pain to the ear. Just yesterday I recorded 5 seperate, 1 hour clips, and 3 30 minute clips. All of them had their audio ruined either at the start or later in the recording. I have no idea what is causing it

I use an external microphone, and I have installed BlackHole, (which works great, btw). I have already done the Audio MIDI setups and am familiar with setting it all up. The audio recorded from my external microphone is crystal clear, and never has any issues anymore, but my computer sounds inevitably end up, at some point in the recording, very crackly and distorted. Before I used BlackHole, it was the external microphone sounds being messed up. (Although it was recorded with the same microphone.) I'm hoping there is another solution as I've already invested in quality equipment, and I have a pretty solid recording setup

Thank you for taking the time to reply though, I appreciate it

when screen recording with quick time you need additional software to record the internal sound. using the internal mic will cause the issues you are having. you will first need a program to loop the audio between apps. i use a kext file from the now retired soundflowerbed. it may no longer work after big sur comes out. if it doesn't, i'll look into BlackHole. also download and install Audacity. then you'll need to go into utilities and set your Audio MIDI Setup as a Multi-Output device. once you do all that, it will take some trial and error until you get used to using it.
