iMovie - no library, no preview

Importing video and there is only one destination option. During import I'm asked to select an 'event' for the new video, but I see no option to create a new one. My only option is a date, that does not match my import, I'm unable to rename it, and it's not a new folder... it has footage previously imported.

So, I have one place where all footage is going and the title is a random date.

Tried to go forward anyway and can't preview the footage.

It's been awhile since I've used iMovie... but, what the heck? These are the basic steps... ought to be in pretty plain sight.

I'm obviously missing something... any help is appreciated.

I don't love iMovie, find it limiting and always frustrating - but, I've lost days trying out other editing apps and haven't found a decent free alternative.

Hi, OnOahu,

From the help menu:

"Create a new event: Click the “Import to” pop-up menu, choose New Event, type a name for the new event, and click OK."
