iOS 14 Broke my iPhone Xs Max (September 2020)

I tried updating to iOS 14 and my iPhone Xs Max shut down. When I tried to reboot it, it got stuck on the Apple logo. I tried doing a forced restart many times. After reaching the recovery mode screen, I am told in iTunes that something is wrong with my device and that I need to do a software update. After clicking update, another prompt says that I am unable to update my device, and that I must conduct a factory restore of this device. This is displeasing.

I had to completely reset my iPhone. Luckily I was able to turn iCloud on for photos and apps through my iPad and they all appeared on that device. I then had to reset my iPhone and get all my old photos, contacts, and messages through iCloud. I ended up having to pay for more storage to be able to back both my devices up. I also have constant notifications on my iPad about finishing setting up my new iPhone which is fully set up now. Overall an awful experience. Not happy.
