Automation troubleshooting

Location based automation options in HomeKit are not selectable. I have location services, keychain and iCloud setup on phone and Apple TV as required. How do I correct this?

Hi Notenoughwine,

We understand the Location option for automations is unavailable. We're happy to assist.

We'd first recommend checking your location settings to make sure all needed items are currently enabled.

In Settings > Privacy > Location Services, you'll want to make sure that Home app is enabled on the main page. Then scroll down to the bottom, select System Services, and make sure the HomeKit option is turned on there.

Once you've ensured those options are both enabled, check to see if the Location option becomes available in your automation settings.

Create home automations with the Home app

If it is still not available, you can also check to see if there is currently any restrictions on the device. Go to Settings > Screen time, and see if that is currently on. If it is, check to see if the Content & Privacy Restrictions option is also turned on. If it is, turn it off then check the automation settings again.

We hope this helps. Cheers!
