Using a US iPhone in SA
If I buy an A2160 iPhone in the US, would it work with carriers in South Africa when I move there permanently?

Greetings shev24,
Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! It seems you're curious if your iPhone model will work with carriers in South Africa.
The following article outlines the supported carriers based on iPhone model: iPhone - View countries with supported LTE networks - Apple
You'll see that your iPhone model isn't listed that it supports carriers in South Africa. At the bottom of the article, you'll see information that carriers may support your iPhone model if it is unlocked:
"Unlocked iPhone models may support LTE networks outside the country of purchase when using a valid SIM from a supported carrier. Contact your carrier for more details."
You can visit the websites of carriers in South Africa from the following article: Wireless carrier support and features for iPhone in Africa - Apple Support
Additionally, you can see how to unlock your iPhone from the following article: How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier - Apple Support
Kind regards.
This is the short version, I not know what iPhone model that is. But you buy "sim free" or unlocked iPhone from Apple Store Online, it suppose to work with other wireless carriers, in other countries.
Be aware that you will not have any warranty service coverage. Any warranty work will need to be done in the US.
