Impossible to rename bluetooth devices in Catalina

I know numerous people who have asked this and had the same standard response to go through the bluetooth devices setting and change in there using 'rename'. This doesn't work, can someone at Apple try this and see if they can finally fix this bug?

In most cases, the bluetooth device needs to be connected to your computer for you to rename it. For example, if you have a pair of AirPods and they show as "Connected" in Bluetooth Preferences, you can "right-click" on them and choose "Rename."

If the bluetooth device is not connected, the only options you will see when you right click on a device are "Connect" and "Remove"
