My computer recognizes my iPad, but the new Music app doesn't. I can't sync. What can I do?

My question is what can I do. ITunes worked perfectly, and I have no intention of subscribing to Apple Music. I am so very sorry that I upgraded to Catalina, as now my Microsoft Word also will not work.

Finder, not the Music app, is where you now manage and sync content on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

BTW, you don't have to subscribe to Apple Music to use the new Music app.

Okay, so now, when I use the usb to link the iPad to the computer, the connection blinks on and off. The usb ports all work with another device, and the usb connection works for the iPad to sync and to connect to another computer. What could possibly be wrong here?
