Right-click on a mouse, or two-finger click on a trackpad, then select Delete Album from the pop up contextual menu.

You cannot delete the albums that come pre-set with the Photos app such as People, Recents, Videos, etc. You can delete albums that you’ve created. This applies to both, manual albums that you added images to, and smart albums that compile images according to rules you selected. Only the albums are deleted, not the images inside of them.
There is currently a bug in Photos that doesn’t properly reset flags for images, so it is recommended to remove all images from manual albums before deleting the album itself.
Right-click and Option-click are both always worth trying.
You’re welcome.
I'm glad to hear it's possible, but HOW do I delete an albu?. I've tried hitting "delete." I've looked in the menu bar. I've tried the Help menu. I've tried dragging the album to trash. I have no more ideas. The album is empty.
Terrific. You are speedy. I wonder if that instruction exists anywhere. I guess I have to add to the "when in doubt list" right-click. Thanks.
