Phone number not visible in IMessage or Facetime

Hi there.

I recently purchased an IPad + Sim .

I have a new Apple ID that isn’t associated with any phones.

When I try to use iMessage on the iPad it only sees my email address and not the phone number of the new sim.

Similarly in facetime it only allows to make or receive calls from my email address and not from the phone number. ?

The phone number is associated with my Apple ID when I log in via the web.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

Mark

The SIM in an iPad does not contact a phone number that can be used for anything. That number is an accounting number only, the SIM is a data only SIM. For the iPad, you register iMessage and FaceTime for your Apple ID. You can add your phone number if you have an iPhone. Once you register the iPhone number with iMessage and FaceTime, it should appear on your iPad if signed in with the same Apple ID.
