Why must I subscribe to Apple Music instead of making individual purchases?

How can I make individual music purchases without subscribing to Apple Music?

You can do that through the iTunes Store. See the iTunes Store section of Add and download music from Apple Music or buy music from the iTunes Store - Apple Support

Thank you! It seemed like every time I tried to purchase music it prompted me to subscribe to Apple Music and I couldn't get past it. I just made a purchase and it went through but I will also cancel my subscription and try again to make sure. I appreciate your help!
