I cannot send a SMS message from my newly restored mac laptop. What is wrong?
Yes. I didn't have an enable messages in icloud selection on my macbook pro computer. I just restored the macbook pro since apple put in a motherboard and some other components. One day it just would not turn on. So when I restored the from time machine backup I had it looked like everything was doing ok. The first problem I had was the icon for ical showed Jul 17. Doing some research I found that is a common problem. Jul 17 meant the icon was not communicating with ical. It is the date in 2002 that Steve Jobs introduced ical. So I deleted the ical icon in the dock and went to the applications folder and dragged a new icon for the dock and that showed the correct date. Then I noticed all my messages for the last two years were gone. I noticed before reloading the operating system I didn't have an "enable messages in icloud" selection on my macbook pro computer on the Messages>Preferences>Settings page. I decided to restore the operating system from the backup apple puts on every computer. I was successful doing this and when I checked Messages>Preferences>Settings; the "enable messages in icloud" was there so I clicked the sync now button and in a few minutes all the messages came back. Then I decided to try the imessage which worked but an interesting new wrinkle happened. I could not send any SMS messages. My brother has an android so this was unacceptable. I cannot remember how I fixed it that problem it was 2 am and I was getting bleryeyed. I remember now, I read on an apple web site that you need to check that you iphone is set up. So I went to messages app on the iphone and sure enough the wrong Macbook pro was selected. There were three mac book pro selections and I selected them all. That fixed my problem with the sms. So for now I think everything is OK. Thanks for the help. Oh yea as soon as this was done I did a time machine backup so if my macbook pro does not start up again I will be able to restore it better.

SMS messages (different from iMessages) have to connect through your iPhone.
Is you Apple-ID set correctly, and are you logged in? is your iPhone connected as well to the same Apple-ID?
