Did your Photos programme import images from your iPhone 6S before.

Try this, hold down the Option/Alt key and Command key while starting up Photos

you should see a dialogue asking if you want to repair the photos library,

click Repair.

The Photos program used to work , but it then slowed down , and now will not except the Photos off my Iphone 6S ???

How do you download a new photos program? - because I think the old one has been corrupted

Yes, photos easily transferred from the iPhone 6S before.

I will follow the technique you recommended .

Photos is what comes with at at least the last four Mac Operating systems, starting with Sierra.
