I can’t find the button in control center to adjust my iPad from portrait to landscape.

Orientation lock is part of Control Center. That icon looks like a small padlock with a circular arrow around it. If it is highlighted in white, it is turned on and the screen will not rotate. That icon cannot be removed from Control Center.
