Series 3 watch will not pair with iPhone 6. It keeps saying that the phone needs updating.

How do I solve this problem? Ive tried manual pairing as well. i Keep getting error message 'Your iPhone is out of date'. I thought iPhone 6 would pair with a watch? Its running iOS 12.4.4. This is my daughters birthday present & she is becoming very upset. Please can some one help me. Thanks

That is correct. If this is a new iPhone Series 3 with the latest watchOS, it requires an iPhone 6s or above to pair. While the Series 3 would have paired with the iPhone 6 with the older watchOS, once it is updated to the latest, which the new purchases would be, it requires iOS 13 or above, which the iPhone 6 will not run.
