Lost Contacts after iOS 13 software update

I updated my iPhone SE with the iOS 13 software today and all my contacts are gone. Has anyone else experienced this? I logged into my iCloud but it shows "no contacts." I backed up my phone to the cloud prior to updating my software (and my contacts were set to back up). I appreciate any help you can give me.
