Apple Music not playing songs in order in a playlist

The order songs are playing on the Mac Music app is all wrong in playlists. I'm not using shuffle and up next is showing the same order as the playlist but it will not play the next song. it will either skip ahead a few songs or it will. think its the last song and stop altogether.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm on a early 2013 MacBook Pro with macOS Catalina 10.15.1 installed

Shuffle is off and if I play the 1st song in the list it jumps to the 4 from the end. 2nd - 3rd from end and so on until it stops and won't play anymore after the song I have to manually start is played as it doesn't seem to know there are more songs so play. It is only playlists/radio like the "Favourites Mix" on Apple Music that seem to have this problem. My local/downloaded music playlists don't seem to have this problem. Could this be due to a corrupt Apple Music preference file? if so is there a way to fix this?

Hi tomljaggo,

Thanks for the reply.

The behavior you describe does sound similar to device-level Shuffle; if you click Controls > Shuffle, is it Off here?

Is this happening in all playlists?

To narrow things down, a good next step is to create a temporary administrator account and sign in there and see if you replicate the same issue in a new user. This will you more about possible root causes: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Take care.

Hi tomljaggo,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see you're having some issues with playback in the Music app on your Mac.

To double-check, are you an Apple Music subscriber?

Does it help if you quit the Music app, click Apple menu () > Restart, and test again?

You might next double-check to make sure that the affected songs have a check in the box just to the left of the Name column. If they do not, that would likely explain what's happening and, in that case, you would just need to right-click any unchecked songs and click Check Selection.

Hopefully the information above helps you! Best wishes.

Hi tomljaggo,

We appreciate that update. Since the issue seems to only occur in one user account, you might try signing out and back in Apple Music in the affected user account. You can do this by clicking Account > Sign Out. Then, sign back in and test it out. Keep in mind that when you sign out, any offline content will be removed and needs to be re-downloaded after.

Cheers.
