Open Water Distance not being recorded

In the past week my Apple Watch 4 has stopped recording the distance covered during my open water swims. The GPS works for other activities but not for open water swim. I swim freestyle as per normal and swim in the same location I always do. I have the latest watch os updates and the watch is fully charged.
