connecting camera to my Mac

I upgraded my computer to a 27" and discovered that my camera does not upload pictures now. It is a Canon SX400 IS. Can someone help me figure out how to install the proper software to use my camera?

You do not need any software. You need the right connection; since you didn't mention exactly which iMac (what ports it has), I will recommend a different way for now (and that is how I've done it for years: If yours has a card reader built in, use that, or, if not, get a card reader. Then simply insert your camera's memory card, plug in the reader, and its icon should appear on the desktop. You can then either look at them right there or import them into Photos or whatever other image editing program you want to use.
