Can someone please walk me through what all the arrows mean on the "currently playing" song in iTunes on my MacBook?

Do you mean these? (screenshots from the Windows version):

Tap the icon to turn on the function.

In the above screenshot, the player will shuffle songs from the current list you are playing. Because Repeat is also on, when the list finishes, it will play again.

Note the difference between the repeat arrows in the screenshot below, compared to the one above:

When Repeat 1 is on the same song will play over and over, until you stop the player, move to another song or turn off Repeat 1.

Tapping the Shuffle button a second time turns it off. Tapping the Repeat icon cycles to the next step:

    • Off
    • Repeat
    • Repeat 1
    • Off.
