Mother In Laws Ipad Air2

My 86 year old mother in law sent me her Ipad Air2 because she finds it too "difficult" to use. Her intent is to repurpose it for her grandson however none of the various Apple ID's or passwords are valid. What can I do to erase all of her data and repurpose it as intended?

This is what should be done when an iPad is given away: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If this cannot be done, she will need to find the original purchase receipt in order to get any help from Apple.
